Recruitment & Walk-in Interviews

Organizations take to walk-in interviews for various reasons.

1. Option to finish a large recruitment drive within a short time.
2. Meet volume recruitment needs.
3. Save time.

Whatever the need may be, walk-in interviews have long been a part of recruitment strategies for organizations worldwide. However, with the evolution of technology and the involvement of same in recruiting methods have changed the perspective of walk-in interviews. There has been a dramatic shift in company's as well as candidate's approach towards walk-ins.

Many companies today prefer to schedule candidates one on one interviews than opt for walk-ins. This is because, walk-in takes a lot of preparation. You have to coordinate with candidates, arrange for a large place to conduct the interviews (Sometimes hire banquet halls, etc), make an arrangement with hiring team members for their availability, ensure the number of walk-ins, coordinate with consultants for the candidate follow up. The whole process consumes a lot of your time and money and involves a lot of effort from the recruitment team to conduct a successful drive.

We have always seen that organizations should always be open to various methods of recruiting. Walk-ins can sometime come by as a very handy method as they help the recruitment team meeting the targets in a single drive if carefully planned and executed. Some things to be taken care of while planning or organizing a walk-in event

1. Ensure the skills for which the walk-in is being conducted is not a niche skill. It will be difficult to drive the numbers.
2. Ensure interviews are held at a place well known. This helps in reducing hassles of explaining the location to candidates.
3. Ensure proper registration method is followed and the candidates are treated with enough care when they walk-in. This ensures, that even if a candidate fails, he never would complain about the organization. This helps in uplifting the image of the organization by word of mouth.
4. Try avoiding arranging walk-ins for senior positions. These people are less likely to turn up as they avoid interviews in crowd situations. This poses a risk for their existing job and potential offers as well.
5. Ensure, experienced professionals, when they turn up are given their due attention. These are the influential people and if they give a thumbs up to your organization in their conversations, they will certainly drive more talent towards the organization.
6. If vendors are involved in driving candidates to a walk-in, monitor their candidates carefully and appreciate the efforts being put in by them. The recruiters at agencies are always skeptical about the success of walk-ins.
7. Survey the geographical evidences of past walk-in events. If a certain location is less responsive to a walk-in drive in the past, it's good to drop the strategy in that place and adopt other methodologies of recruitment.

Generation Y and reading habits!

Generation Y as termed is today's job performing / seeking generation. Is there a major difference in the socio - economic expectations of Generation Y from Generation X? We guess yes! The conditions in which the born after 90's children in India grew up were economically and socially better than their predecessors. Hence this generation has a lot more economic expectations from the environment than the former. However, one key aspect that more misses in this generation is the sense of responsibility. These people are socially more strong, economically more expecting; however responsibility wise less deserving. Very few among these lads would be willing enough to start at the beginning step. However, they disregard the learning that comes from beginning the race at start line.

We at Amraks come across many Generation Y people who are seeking jobs however aren't willing to compromise on the paycheck. When we compare the value addition capabilities of these people, they rank below average, however the expectations are skyrocketing. It's good to have high expectations; however a strong will to back those expectations with technical abilities is necessary to succeed. The biggest lack that we find in these people is the zeal to read. Internet today has equipped all to have access to so many sources that were practically tough for previous generations to acquire. Internet is a huge source of information that allows you to learn and imbibe qualities that will help you in succeeding in professional careers. We like to advise all people to read: Read articles, read news-bits, read reviews, read essays, read poems, read whatever you can find useful to build a wealth of knowledge that gives you an edge to perform your duties better.

Knowledge does not evaporate from your mind. Human mind can relate to a topic read years ago when you come across the same discussion. Complete contributing capability depends from person to person, however reference can always be remembered. So people, read! Read as much as possible to create a Wikipedia in your mind that allows you to reference to solutions in the toughest of challenges. All the best!
